Hello Goodbye Brooklyn ?

Jay-Z might of gotten some good news today with his 150 Million dollar Live Nation deal finalized ( just check the big homie Eskay’s site for that news, http://tinyurl.com/5dowdp ) but his dream of moving the Nets to Brooklyn has taken a giant step back and I for one couldn’t be happier. After listening to all this talk about Seattle losing the Sonics and how outraged everyone should be that they are getting hijacked I couldn’t help but think why isn’t the same outrage happening here over the Nets ? Don’t get it twisted the fans in Seattle have every right to be outraged just like me and most of my friends were when this proposed plan to bring the Nets to BK first broke but it seems like everyone forgot that this was was supposed to happen. Awhile back Nah Right vet ( shout to 911 ) asked me that very question why aren’t Nets fans up in arms about the move. My answer was there were numerous reasons, for one the Nets are low on the totem poll as far as sports teams go in the tri-state area, second the current arena at the Meadowlands is a dump and forget how much of a pain it can be to get to once your there you feel dirty and very uncomfortable, yeah yeah I know that’s Jersey for you. Thirdly it’s only a basketball team was a common theme among people who could actually do something about it and they didn’t care cause the Nets were losing money not making it and instead of using common sense and logic to see why they were losing money and what could be done to have them make money they just wrote it off and concentrated on getting that new hockey arena built in Newark. Seriously hockey was a dying sport it seemed people were forgetting it ever existed and their main focus was on getting hockey to Newark, HOCKEY to NEWARK ?!!! The last reason why I said a big deal wasn’t being made has come to light, most of us just didn’t believe it was ever gonna happen and it looks the lovely borough of Brooklyn is in the process of losing.
If you haven’t heard and your wondering where this is coming from, it started yesterday with an article on the front page of the best newspaper on the planet the Newark Star-Ledger ( http://tinyurl.com/5auh6c ) where they talk about the Mayor of Newark and the Owner of the Devils trying to keep the Nets in it’s home state. They point out the fact that the economy is in the toilet and interest rates are out of control if you can even convince anyone to shell out that much money to build a 900 Million dollar arena that it is looking ever less likely anything will ever get built in Brooklyn. Think about it they were originally supposed to be starting next season in their new arena instead not one single pillar has gone in the ground. So now the date has been pushed back to 2010 or as the same day Dre releases Detox, October 3rd of two-thousand and never.
Obviously this is a move made to try and help Newark further stabilize it’s self and to try and take away any competition from the newly built Prudential Center in Newark. Now I haven’t been in this building yet as I have no desire to go watch a hockey game but as any Newark resident can tell you the arena looks amazing and is all new and high-tech like. It never made sense to me that when they Devils were building the arena in Newark and that the Nets wouldn’t go with them but now it does. At the Meadowlands the Nets paid out large sums of cold hard cash to the Devils for be allowed to use the arena so why would they enter a joint venture with the Nets when they can get it done first and then invite the Nets in for a small fee, guess they didn’t believe the move to BK would happen either. It’s really common sense, which do you think would do better in Newark a basketball team or a hockey team ? Put them together though, cause the Devils do have a strong following in Jersey, and your half way to your target of booking the arena 200 times a year without booking even one concert/show. Whats not to like about this ? Any Jersey resident can also tell you Jersey wants your money anyway they can get it this is a way they can get it without being corrupt, thats a win win for everyone, well except Brooklyn of course.
I haven’t seen the paper today as I haven’t left my house to get breakfast yet but I did check nj.com right quick and noticed these 2 new articles are up. The first one I find hilarious as it appears the Mayor of Newark Mr. Cory Booker has challenged Brooklyn borough president Marty Markowitz to a game of one-on-one with the winner getting the Nets, I like Newark’s chances. ( http://tinyurl.com/5q7nf4 ) The second article is by Star-Ledger columnist Steve Politi where he simply states It’s time to bring the Nets to Newark ( http://tinyurl.com/6aa72d ) and goes on to say the move to Brooklyn just doesn’t make sense, sorry Hov but the man is right it doesn’t make sense and you sir better just be happy with your 150 million dollars from that Live Nation deal cause your Nets are saying goodbye to Brooklyn before they ever get there, but don’t worry we will still save you those court side seats if you want, Holla.

HelloGoodbye Brooklyn ?"and yeah I still haven’t figured out how to properly link things I’ll get someone to teach me this shit soon enough or just look into it myself eventually
Great post, Ty. You’ve been doing a great job stepping out of your comfort zone. You’re still rough around the edges but your material is top notch. As for the Nets, I hope they stay in Jersey. I don’t think Brooklyn is gonna work for a major sports team, no disrespect to BKScribe or the Dodgers.
word - thanks Rey I appreciate it, and yeah I know the shits rough around the edges thats why I’m going back to school, which I finally started getting acceptance letters for, and I will be doing mad internships so I can get this shit smoothed out
also co-sign BK is not the right place for a sports team and Ratner wanted them so he could build his super mall there he doesn’t give a damn about basketball the Nets were just a means to his end but now he ain’t got shit to work with so he will eventually bow out and sell the team so he can recoup his money
GO JERSEY!
for real.. i though taking the nets out of jersey was a lame move.
What schools did you apply to? Also, Maybe Bruce Ratner will sell the Nets and buy the Knicks. Then we can punch James Dolan in his big stupid face.
LMAO @ Rey and I sympathize I hate Dolan for you guys and I am no Knicks fan
I applied to Seton Hall ( not getting in, I fucked around too much missed too many classes to get in there ) Farleigh Dickinson
( what I’m still waiting to hear from cause it’s 10 minutes from my house ) William Paterson, Montclair State, and St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, all of which I got in except Montclair St. I’m still waiting to hear back from
Nice. I must’ve passed St Peter’s a hundred times staying with Mom Dukes in Jersey City. This your first trip to college or are you going back?
Rey - naw I got my 2 years degree ( in criminal justice though it’s the only thing I could get interested enough to go to class for ) I was done with that about 6 years ago and decided I need money if I was gonna spend all day doing something I didn’t feel like doing I needed a more immediate result like getting paid weekly or every other week, thats when I took the job as an architect and did that for 4 + years, then I decided I wasn’t down with doing the same 9-5 every day office gig for the rest of my life if I was gonna work it needed to be for something I would do for free as well, hence the sports journalism I love writing about this shit now for free so if I can turn it into me getting paid thats a win win and something I can do for years and years
Ah, Okay. You’re a better man than I am, Mr. Big Gums. I got my Kanye’s First Album on after 3 mostly nonproductive semesters of community college.
Why the Brooklyn hate… shit we can’t have a major sports team?
Personally I don’t care about ratner, the nets, basketball, jersey, etc.. It really didn’t matter to me much the team was tryin to go to jersey..
I loathe gentrification and eminent domain, Though I think the Dodgers should come back to BK.. we got plenty of room for em.
Also fuck college..
lmao, actually I got no beef with Brooklyn, it’s Ratner I have a problem with and honestly I think it’s a win win for both Jersey and BK because it’s not the right place for it and will not be a good look for the people who live in BK, I just wanted to get in a cheap shot like you motherfuckers stay cheap shotting Jersz
??????????????????????????????????????????????????
Whatchu know about that?
