I Love Trades, Trades, Trades, Trades…..
Feb 19, 2008 Author: tyronebiggums | Filed under: BasketballTrades I do adore / put your stars on the block for expiring contracts / and holla at me when Lebron’s in a Nets uniform. Let me slow down a bit as I’ll get to that Lebron part in a minute but for now just
So congrats NBA, you did it, it’s been a crazy couple of weeks but you have managed to pull me back in. Thanks to these trades the NBA is once again FAN-tastic, as one of those corny ass commercials loves to put it. As I have said I was bored with basketball too many fouls, refs have too much control on the end of the game ( and I’m not even talking about the cheating ones ) stars get special treatment and there are too many average teams. Well the last couple weeks has changed that, now we still have a bunch of terrible teams, which is fine with me since I was ignoring them anyway, but the league needs to cut down to about 20 teams, please Stern get that NBA Europe idea out of your head NOW. Now the East is still a 2 team race with the Lebron’s with just an outside chance of making things interesting, but wow how the West has Changed.
Let’s start with the first and frankly the most important trade and thats the one that catered to Mr. Kobe Bryant. You have to give Lakers GM Mitch Kupcheck credit cause not only did he get a big crucial piece to add to a potential championship run, in Pau Gasol, but he gave up NOTHING for it, WOW, imagine if he caved in last year and gave away Bynum for Kidd. Kidd wouldn’t fit in the triangle offense, the only offense he won’t fit in because it makes the point guard into a shooter and they wouldn’t have Bynum who everyone now knows is for real. Right now as constructed if Bynum comes back healthy and Kobe’s pinky holds up I think they are easy favorites to win the Championship as Kobe seems to actually like playing a good teammate and finding people for open shots. With Gasol and Bynum on the blocks Odem and Kobe spreading the court and D Fisher always being left open for wide open jump shots this team is gonna be damn tough to stop. Kobe is one of the best defenders in the game and Gasol and Bynum will cause teams fits on the D as well. Funny how things work just a couple months ago Kobe was crying to anyone and everyone get me out of here now I can’t imagine him being any happier. The only problem lies in that pinky, it’s a serious injury cause it’s on his shooting hand, yeah he has been playing through the pain now, yeah he has a high pain threshold ( so I’m told, how the fuck would I know, I wish I pelted him with rocks to see for myself but I haven’t ) but what happens when he re-injuries it in a couple weeks or a month and he can’t play through it and needs season ending surgery. Listen I get the West is jumbled only 4 games difference from 1st to not making the playoffs but I think they can miss him for six weeks and still get in the playoffs once Bynum comes back, and I would rather be a 6 seed going into the playoffs with a 100 % Kobe than a higher seed with an 80 % Kobe but thats just me. Regardless this post is about the trade and this was a work of art from Kupcheck. However I have to think the Grizzles lost bad, they had to be able to get something better than Kwame ” The flaming faggot (c) Michael Jordan ” Brown for Gasol.
Now here comes the most interesting trade and the hardest to predict what will happen. The answer all revolves around which Shaq are the Suns getting ? At first thought the idea of parting with Marion seems absurd look at his numbers across the board he does everything shoots, drives the lane, passes, rebounds, blocks shots, good perimeter D, problem is he is a whiner who wasn’t happy and continually let everyone know it. The Suns players had enough of him and must love having him not in the locker room anymore. Listen this guy was complaining he wasn’t getting paid enough and the Suns ( one of the cheapest teams in the NBA never willing to go over the luxury tax ) should pay him more. Never mind he was already getting paid 2 mill + a year more than Steve Nash or Amare Stoudamire, he was getting disrespected. GTFOH I damn sure don’t want him on my team. So we got the addition by subtraction theory in play, which granted only goes so far because well the Matrix is THAT good but what it comes down to is how determined is Shaq. Every time Shaq felt the need to prove himself he responds by being, well Shaq and he can’t be stopped, but does he have it in those knees anymore ? Everyone is complaining Shaq cripples the suns they can’t run and gun like they want to, why not ? you need 4 people to run the open floor and Shaq, when healthy, is as good as it gets at getting a rebound and hitting his outlet passes. Also people realize Shaq’s an old man now and the Suns know this they are smart, you won’t see too much of him in the regular season when he gets healthy just enough so they all feel comfortable with how he fits in and in the playoffs. He will be used smartly, they will space his time and he will be in the game early in the quarters getting hacked early and often so the Suns will be in the bonus with 6-8 minutes left in each quarter, at which point they take him out and start making free throw after free throw. Shaq’s size and presence is still enough to scare people from driving the lane and he immediately adds a toughness to them they haven’t had, assuming he can hold up health wise I can’t see this being a bad move, because realistically I didn’t think they were winning it with Marion so why not take a boom or bust chance, if nothing else you get to inject some Shaq in your city.
As for this third trade ( which has taken what feels like 8 weeks to get done, and 12 years off my life ) it is clearly the least important as far as this year goes, but as far as I’m concerned and the soon to be Brooklyn Nets are concerned it’s easily the most important. We will get to the BK Nets in a minute but first lets look at the Mavs. Let’s just say if I was running the Mavs I’d of stayed put. Yeah Kidd is gonna help get everyone else open shots but in the West he is gonna get embarassed on D by the likes of Tony Parker and Chris Paul his knees can’t keep up, and trust me as a Nets fan he will play through the pain like a trooper but you can clearly see the pain in him come playoff time. The Mavs other problem was giving up their only solid defensive big man Diop, so how do they expect to defend Shaq, or Duncan or Bynum and Gasol ? With Erik Dampier, pardon me I had to laugh at that. Now for arguments sake lets say this trade does make the Mavs slightly better than they were a week or 2 ago are they better than the Suns, Lakers, Spurs ? Hell to the no and they probably still won’t be better than the Hornets, Jazz and maybe the Warriors ( B.Diddy will eat Jason up all day ) . All I can really say is Rod Thorn is a genius cause somehow he convinced the Mavs this trade would make sense and I can’t see how he did it. The only time you sell your future ( Harris ) for now is if you think it gives you atleast a 50 % chance of winning it all and or all your stars on on there last years, and neither is the case here, yup you guessed it the Mavs lose. Speaking of losing Devean George is really gonna lose, this jackass refused to be part of the deal ( after asking to be traded a couple weeks ago ) because he didn’t want to lose his right to get signed to a max contract, news flash for you George your avg. @ 3 points a game and your a guard who is gonna give you anything, let alone a max contract. This guy just killed his career cause you know Dallas will shun him as will the rest of the league. Who is gonna take such a delusional selfish player, who provides next to nothing on the court, good luck fading into obscurity George.
Ok so now I’ll get to the Nets and the genius that is Rod Thorn. Everyone in the NBA knew Kidd wanted out and with his high salary and age it was gonna be tough to move, this all kills his trade value yet somehow someway Thorn got exactly what he was looking for ( well not exactly Hassell will take up more space than Stackhouse’s buyout would of, just another case of people not knowing when to keep their mouth shut ) he got a great young point guard who is locked up real cheap for years to come ( 6 years at just under 4 mill a year ) and he got a bunch of expiring contracts, which is a hot commadity in the NBA. So now he has a young solid nucleus of Harris, Jefferson, Boone and Sean Williams ( who are really starting to play good basketball ) and in the next couple years he will have all the cap room in the world and what you ask is he looking to do with that cap space ? Thats right you all remember Jay-Z owns a part of the Nets and King Lebron has made no secrets about wanting to throw the ROC up in BK for Hov, so while it maybe a few years away still you best get used to seeing Bron Bron in a BK Nets uniform and remember you heard it here first.
* throws the ROC up *

damn it feels good to post a novel again
SMH
what you SYH @ plug ?
by the way i still think the Pistons are gonna be in the finals this year
cosign the pistons. I said SMH because of the novel…
o yeah, well you know thats how I do I can’t help it I’m a wordy dude I try my best to cut it down, thats why I need to take my ass back to school for this shit so I can learn to chop shit down
I don’t think Kobe can sit out 6 weeks for surgery, Gasol and Odom are good players but they can’t carry a team
@ E - it’s a huge risk don’t get me wrong, but how many times have you played basketball stuck your hnd in for a loose ball and jammed or bent your finger, the likelyness of him ( especially as hard as he plays ) re-injuring the finger is waaaaay too good, I just can’t see him playing the whole season and playoffs without re hurting it in which case I’d rather take my chances and sit him now, but I understand both arguements, I just think its only a matter of time before he hurts it again
E aka Young Dick Butkis(no homo)
^^ *dead*
Yo the NBA hands down is the best league in all of sports if you take all of what it has accomplished, globally, Charity Work, the Faces of the players up everywhere, the new exicitment of Stars in other places, teams picking up the scoring, cleaning up the image and thuggery for the most part. The only reason it doesnt get that nod now is just imo racism. With all the transpired a few years ago, you will be hard pressed to say the league didnt completely try to re-invent itself for the better ……..
i thought it was Kupchack ……No Spell Check LMAO
@ Ty, yeah if Kobe keeps playing with a broken finger he’ll likely re-injure it again, supposedly the lakers are trying to trade Odom for Butler; if they get Caron; kobe can sit out 6 weeks

lmao
@ E - poor shaun Livingston I forgot all about him and damn just reading his name makes my entire leg hurt, that boy had so much promise it’s a damn shame it was such a freaky injury too he just jumped up like 3 inches
lmao @ the idea of the Lakers wanting Butler back, not like they shouldn’t dudes nice but it wasn’t that long ago they shipped him away
@ I fux - yeah your right it is Kupchack I think but I damn sure wasn’t about to search for that fools name I had to many other pieces of the novel to worry about
holy shit my dude is the encyclopedia brittanica of sports and marijuana
btw bron is a good dude he does a lot for the kids
lmao @ Chea
sidenote : I haven’t smoked in 4 days and i got a lot more days to go
yeah i heard that about Bron Bron hopefully he will help them BK kids out soon
i don’t wanna burst your bubble,
but don’t get your hopes up too far about Lebron as a net. History shows that almost 90 percent of the time when a superstar nba player switches teams its via trade and not Free Agent signing.
Not to mention the Move to BK has been delayed several times and theres absolutely no reason to think it won’t be delayed more, if y ou have read about the contractual and technical stalemates that Ratner (the brooklyn nets main purchaser dude) and the City are in. So they could end up in BK After Bron Bron is free. Not to m ention one other thing…
While the nets do lose alot of cap money in the coming years and they have Harris and Sean Williams…The Cavs will have even more money to spend in 2010. They cant trade for anyone to help him now, but they will be fuckloaded with money to spend on him in 2010, so much that they will be able to sign him and another huge free agent. 2009-2010 has ridiculous free agents…I put t he money o n him staying in cleveland. lol but what do i know, i’m a angry ass Knicks fan (smh) who wouldnt want his team to be shitted on by a brooklyn team
Good shit Ty……and I wouldn’t mind seeing Bron playing for the Nets…….and Kobe needs to get better cause Lakers need that nigga…..
Brooklyn Teams > all other teams.

……yeah but the Cavs can’t trade Lebron, an if they do it will be just like Jason he gets to choose where he goes, cause if he doesn’t want to play there, deal’s dead. Bron’s already said he is ready to come to play for Jay in BK even though jay really has nothing to do with it, they are building a young cheap talented roster specifically for him trust, rod Thorn is a genius
Shaq cripples the suns they can’t run and gun like they want to, why not ? you need 4 people to run the open floor and Shaq, when healthy, is as good as it gets at getting a rebound and hitting his outlet passes.

very good point
still reading
i love basketball.
im glad shaq is gone, i think the heat can rebuild around wade now, and revamp and stop sucking so much.
that is all.
My point is he IS NOT gonna get traded because he is Lebron and its impossible to get decent equal value.
Thus we are left with switching teams via Free Agency.
When was the last time an elite SUPERSTAR signed with a different team via free agency?
If you stay with the same team for 8 years, your eligible for alot of extra things contractually, for one thing. Kobe is the only one in the L with a no trade clause because he a top 3 player AND has stayed with the lakers for dumb long.
And the cavs will have more money… to spend on him and other people…
And if Thorn is a genius who is planning to rebuild and save money for lebron…why did he sign Vince Carter? who is gonna be extremely hard to trade with a 5 yr deal…unless you ask to trade with the knicks since theyre idiots, of course.
At this point, it’s just too many If’s to say that such a thing is likely. If the brooklyn arena is done on time, If they can move VCs contract, IF RJ can play the 2, IF They continue to draft well, IF they have more money then the cavs…
oh shit…you saying Lebron going to the Bk Nets…
damn that would be crazy!!….
but that’s good point you brought up, because there gonna have to do the moves necessary to bring him here, right now, instead of later, if they really want to be successful in getting him to the nets
as far as the Shaq trade, i just don’t know…i don’t know…
but you is right about him always winning when he gotta to prove something….and having amarie & nash on your team helps too…
and the lakers…yeah they did a good move…
lmao @ 2 x’s
@ Greenie, i didn’t really touch on how it affected the Heat, seriously not to diss them but because the novel was already too deep, but I thought it was a genius move by Riley Marion is a stud match him with a healthy Wade and if they can get that kid Beasely from kansas state they will be a problem, also I think being star # 2 in Miami will keep Marion happy for awhile and he can do it everything it was really a great move by Riley , and shows some real hope for them next year
my advice is have d-wade rest and sit out the year though he takes to much punishment and is beat the fuck up let him come back strong and healthy when they have a chance
unless you ask to trade with the knicks since theyre idiots, of course.

lmao!!!!!!!
( so I’m told, how the fuck would I know, I wish I pelted him with rocks to see for myself but I haven’t )

….yeah but you got to listen to Lebron, he stays complaining that they aren’t helping him, he won’t pull a Kobe and seel his teammates out but you can tell he is frustrated in Cleveland and he is ready to be out unless they make some drastic changes, plus yeah he could make more money in his contract playing for cleveland ( they could sign and trade him so they get something back ) but also he would make much much more in advertising if he was to go to NY…….plus this would allow him to rock his Yankees hat in peace…
damn the west gonna be fuckin dogfight
lakers
spurs
mavs
suns
hornets
And if Thorn is a genius who is planning to rebuild and save money for lebron…why did he sign Vince Carter? who is gonna be extremely hard to trade with a 5 yr deal…unless you ask to trade with the knicks since theyre idiots, of course.
……agreed that was his one dumb move but it turns out he did that to cater to Kidd, don’t ask why Kidd wanted it he should of seen the quit in Vince, also don’t be so sure Vince will still be here, Thorn had a deal on the table to swap Vince for jermain O’Neal he didn’t take it cause O’neal’s knee, now again I’d take it even if he could never walk again just get Vince off the team….
At this point, it’s just too many If’s to say that such a thing is likely. If the brooklyn arena is done on time, If they can move VCs contract, IF RJ can play the 2, IF They continue to draft well, IF they have more money then the cavs…
…. well obviously I’m not stating this as absolute fact but I can promise you that is Thorn’s game plan, weather or not it works we will have to wait and see, but just remember how many times lebron has already said he would love to rep for Jay’s team the money he could make in advertising there would crush any NBA contract money……
good looks Rey, yeah I went on a little impromtu tri-state Vaca then I had a bunch of legal drama I had to sort out but the boys back in the building and I’ll be back on my grind
@ 2 x’s - yeah the Suns was either a boom or bust but Marion was a cancer so I applaud Kerr for having the balls to take the chance, most GM’s play it safe
and yeah the west is crazy theres gonna be a team with 50 wins that doesn’t make the playoffs thats insane
agreed that was his one dumb move but it turns out he did that to cater to Kidd, don’t ask why Kidd wanted it he should of seen the quit in Vince,

ohhhhh i had no idea about that. i could see that too. damn thats some bad luck

Cool breeze, Ty. Take care of yourself. You seem to have your shit together too much to have to get caught up in knuckleheadedness.
unless you ask to trade with the knicks since theyre idiots, of course.

I’ve been a new york city residing knicks fan since I started watching basketball, lay off. lol. Besides, its true.
I don’t watch sports..unless I have company over and i’m in mary poppins mode, but the way you went in depth with this post makes me wanna sit down and watch the bullshit
good post ty
I see you going in with the novels
cornbread………ain’t nothing wrong with that {c} chris rock
First things first.
Chris Bosh > Pau Gasol
By all means, everyone sleep on my Raptors. Go ahead. So glad Kapono beat the shit out of Dirk last weekend.
SMH @ Yao launching 3s.
BronBron in BK > BronBrok in Akron
it’ll happen, why you think Flash and King James signed big short term deals at the same time? It’s all about the short-term movements.
LMFAO @ pockets name and all I don’t know where you come up with the shit
thanks spooney,
@ T - Dot - no doubt Bosh is a beast much better than Gasol but he doesn’t have Kobe and Bynum on his team, they are without a doubt the 3rd or 4th best team in the east though but thats just the East. I’ll tell you what though that Jose Calderon can ball for real, and they are building a real solid team
Cool breeze, Ty. Take care of yourself. You seem to have your shit together too much to have to get caught up in knuckleheadedness.
……good looks Rey but it’s the cops in these surrounding towns, they still know me from when I used to be some shit, they used to be after me hard but never caught me slippin, so now they have to take the crumbs of busting me with .12 grams ( which isn’t enough to get anyone even buzzed ) and then trying to re-arrest me in court saying I still smell like weed after I had been there for 3 hours ( and hadn’t smoked all day and had clean fresh smelling clothes, I was going to court for christ’s sake ) and all the other cops didn’t notice it, my lawyer had to step in and threaten to slap a harassment suit on them just to get them off my back….. but I did my shit I’m 27 I had my fun with it benefited greatly from it but now I’m good and set for a long time if these cops would leave me alone there would be no problem, this just means I can’t go see my cousin aunt and uncle they have to come see me, cause every time I go through that town I’m liable to get fucked with
